Hiking package
The areas around Rjukan offer fantastic hiking opportunities. Many people have heard of Gaustatoppen, but with a hiking holiday to Rjukan you can go on different trips every day. Here is a hiking package with 4 peaks you can reach with three nights of accommodation.
Gaustatoppen
A goal for many hikers is to reach Gaustatoppen. The top is easily accessible and quite easy to climb, but still offers the widest view of southern Norway. From the top you can on clear weather see about one sixth of Norway.
From Gaustablikk Høyfjellshotell you have an absolutely fantastic view towards Gaustatoppen.
Take the bus that goes from the hotel door and on to Stavsro, which is the most common used starting point. The path up is wide, however rocky. The height difference is about 700 meters.
The surface consists of stones, large and small. As you approach the top, the view becomes increasingly beautiful, and you can see the mountains in Telemark, Buskerud and Oslomarka. The last part north of the ridge offers great views in all directions, not least over the Hardangervidda (Norways largest natiopnal park) which spreads out to the west.
The trip to Gaustatoppen is an approximately 4 km long family-friendly summit trip that is suitable for experienced children. You should calculate about 2.5 hours one way.
At the top you will find Gaustatoppen Tourist cabin, which was set up as early as 1893, and is built of natural stone from the top itself. The cabin is has easy serving of waffles, coffee and drinks every day during the summer season until mid-October.
Gaustabanen
Gaustatoppen can also be reached with the Gaustabanen. A rail track inside Gaustatoppen that transports you to the top in a pleasant 15 minutes. Hiking and the Gaustabanen are a perfect combination for the visit to Gaustatoppen. Go one way and take Gaustabanen the other. Doing both adds an extra dimension to the trip. It is not every day you take a train in the middle of the mountains.
The Gaustabanen was built by NATO and was completed in 1959 and was "secret" and inaccessible to most people until it opened to tourist traffic in 2010.
Skipsfjell
The peak number two is Skipsfjell.
Skipsfjell around is a relatively easy summit hike that takes you through beautiful and varied terrain - over trails and through lift routes and ski slopes. The trip is approx. 4.6 km long and suitable for everyone, both families with children and more experienced hikers. At the top you can enjoy fantastic views towards Gaustatoppen and Rjukan.
Ørnenipa
The peak number 3 is Ørnenipa.
The summit hike from Gaustablikk to Ørnenipa is a relatively easy hike in varied terrain, and takes approx. 3 hours round trip. The top of Ørnenipa is located at an altitude of 1333 meters and offers a nice view of Gaustatoppen, Tuddal and Tinnsjøen. The trip to Ørnenipa is about 4.6 km and offers 359 altitude meters.
Toreskyrkja
Toreskyrkja is the last peak.
Toreskyrkja is a mountain peak of 1371 meters that protrudes into the mountain massif between Kvitåvatn, Gaustablikk and Heddersvatn by Stavsro. The top has a fantastic view towards Tuddal and the mountain areas south of Telemark. Gaustatoppen is also a great sight from Toreskyrkja.
The trip to Toreskyrkja is considered to be a somewhat tougher trip than Gaustatoppen. The trail starts at 958 meters above sea level and has a rise of a total of 433 meters. The trail largely follows a brook valley so that there are several places for drinking and cooling in the cold water. The trip is in high mountain terrain with passage in boulders, so mountain boots with good ankle support are required for a safe trip. The trip to Toreskyrkja is about 3 km one way and takes about 2 hours one way.
Gaustablikk Høyfjellshotell
The accommodation takes place at the classic high mountain hotel Gaustablikk Høyfjellshotell. The hotel is beautifully located at the foot of Gaustatoppen and the end of Kvitåvatn.
At Kvitåvatn, two floating saunas have been launched. Here you can take a cooling dip after one of the trips and then warm up in a good and warm sauna while your eyes rest on the great view and your body relaxes after a strenuous summit trip.
Every morning you bring a packed lunch from the hotel which you can enjoy for lunch on the trips. Dinner is served at the hotel every night.
Everything is ready for many great nature experiences and good service.
