Highlights in Rjukan - Must visit

  1. Winter at Gaustatoppen
    The mountain Gaustatoppen in Rjukan in Telemark county is easily accessable and one of the most beautiful mountains in Norway.
  2. The sun mirrors bring sun down to Rjukan Square during winter months, when it is normally shady.
  3. Krossobanen was built in 1928 and was a gift from Norsk Hydro, so the townspeople could get up to see the sun during the winter.
  4. Winter at Vemork
    At the Norwegian Industrial Workers Museum at Vemork you can see the unique exhibition about WWII as well as the industrialization of Rjukan.
  5. Gaustabanen is a funicular railway, inside Gaustatoppen. This is a very unique touristattraction. No similiar railway is to be found in North-Europe!
  6. M/B Fjellvåken
    The M/B Fjellvåken takes you on a wonderful trip across Lake Møsvatn from Skinnarbu to Mogen Turisthytte
  7. Rjukanbadet is not just a swimming complex, but a center for well being and comfort.
  8. Hardangervidda National Park Center in winter
    Interactive exhibition about wild reindeer.
  9. Rjukan climbing park offers great view from the tree tops.
    Climb the saboteur route and demolish the heavy water production!
  10. Rjukan railway
    The Rjukan Railway was built by Norsk Hydro, and opened in 1909. It's a unique railway which enabled Sam Eyde to build a power station and factories.
