Rjukan Admini
Live like the royals at Rjukan Admini hotel
Rjukan Admini was raised by the founder of Norsk Hydro, Samuel Eyde, and has been a well kept secret for many years. Rjukan Admini was also used as the home of Director Henriksen in the TV-series "The heavy Water War".
Norwegian Industrial Workers Museum at Vemork
Vemork is perhaps mostly known as the scene of the famous sabotage act during WWII. However, the war history is close related to the industrial history. The story of the water that is made into electrical power, on its way from the mountains to the sea; of the electrical power that developed the foundation for industry and workplaces for the people; and of the development of the welfare state in Norway – from the poorest country to the richest within 100 years. This story is the start of the industrial revolution in Norway, and is also presented at Norwegian Industrial Workers Museum.
Krossobanen
Krossobanen is a cable car, built by Norsk Hydro in 1928 so the townspeople could get up to the sun during winter.
Underneath the cable car, is "Ryes vei - the retreat", which is the way the Norwegian saboteurs escaped after bombing the heavy water factory at Vemork during WWII.
Today Krossobanen is a tourist attraction that is open every day, all year.
