The easiest way to get to Rjukan is with your own car. Here are some directions from Oslo, Geilo and Kristiansand.
From Oslo
If you come by car from the Oslo area, follow the E18 towards Drammen. Take off towards Kongsberg on E134. From Kongsberg, follow the signs to Geilo a short distance, until you see signs to Rjukan and RV 37. Now follow RV37 over Jondalen, Gransherad and then to Rjukan.
In just 2.5 hours you are in Rjukan.
From Geilo
In summer it is very short and easy to drive from Geilo to Rjukan.
The easiest way is via Imingfjell to Tinn Austbygd and then to Rjukan. Follow RV 40, turn right into FV 124, then continue on FV 755 through Tessungdalen. In Tinn Austbygd, turn right on RV 364.
Continue on RV 37 and you are after a few minutes on Rjukan.
From Geilo to Rjukan is estimated about 1.5 hours in summer.
NOTE! In winter, FV124 is closed, and you must then drive via Kongsberg - Jondalen - Gransherad - Rjukan.
From Kristiansand
You can choose to drive via Setesdalen or along Lake Nisser. The latter is somewhat faster.
Follow the E18 towards Lillesand, take the exit towards Birkeland at Storemyrkrysset towards RV 402. In Birkeland, follow the signs towards Åmli.
Follow RV 41 through Åmli, Treungen, Nissedal and Vrådal. Then you come to Brunkeberg where you turn left on the E 134 to Høydalsmo.
Turn right towards Rjukan on Øyfjellsvegen. Follow this until it leads out onto RV 37 and turn right again and follow RV 37 to Rjukan.
Travel time is about 4 hours.
