Courses have always been a core part of the festival, and over the years, the speed climbing competition has become a cherished tradition.
About the Festival
This 4-day festival begins at Norrøna House, Lysaker, Oslo. You will have the opportunity to join an indoor climbing session at Gneis or climb the local waterfalls near Norrøna House before enjoying a delicious 3-course dinner at Naturen Restaurant. The festival then continues in Rjukan, where you can participate in various ice climbing and ski touring courses, the speed climbing competition, social gatherings, dinners, and much more. The festival concludes with a casual dinner at Naturen Restaurant in Oslo.
Throughout the long weekend, you’ll have the chance to test products from Norrøna, Scarpa, and Petzl, and enjoy inspiring presentations and tech talks from our ambassadors.
Why Rjukan?
Rjukan is located in Telemark County in southeastern Norway, approximately a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Oslo. With over 150 icefalls, Rjukan is a world-class destination for ice climbing. The area offers relatively stable ice climbing conditions: due to its narrow east-west valleys, the valley floor remains untouched by sunlight between October and March, resulting in minimal sunlight and abundant ice. Most ice routes are within easy reach, even with heavy snow conditions, making it possible to achieve plenty of climbing.
Rjukan is also flanked by two iconic mountain ranges. To the south lies the mighty Gaustatoppen (1,883 meters above sea level), offering excellent skiing opportunities, while to the north you’ll find the impressive Hardangervidda mountain plateau.
