Guided tour to the saboteur cabin in Fjøsbudalen

About

A fantastic experience following in the footsteps of the saboteurs, where an experienced and knowledgeable guide will lead you along the route taken by the Gunnerside team to Vemork and into the Heavy Water Cellar.

The Saboteur Trail is an 8-kilometer hike starting at Rjukan Fjellstue and ending at the Vemork power station. You will walk the same path the saboteurs took to carry out one of the most important missions of World War II.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Purchase your ticket in advance, no later than the day before (link in the event or at www.nia.no).

  2. Prepare a packed lunch and drinks, wear good hiking footwear, and don’t forget sunscreen.

  3. Drive to the turnoff for Rjukan Fjellstue, where there is a signposted large parking area by the main road (allow some extra time for parking and getting ready).

  4. The guided tour starts at 11:00 AM. We hike through Hjerdalen and Fjøsbudalen, with a good break at the Saboteur Cabin, where you'll have time for a meal (remember to bring food and drinks). From there, we follow the saboteurs’ footsteps. We do not cross the gorge but walk over the bridge to Vemork. Once at Vemork, we will visit the Heavy Water Cellar and the power station itself. Guide Gunnar Tveito, who has worked in the Rjukan industry, will accompany you throughout the tour.

  5. After the tour, we drive the drivers back to the starting point to retrieve the cars from where they were parked.
